Up the road from Southern Ocean Lodge is Vivonne Bay, home to National Geographic’s popular voted ’Best Beach’, a prehistoric-looking landscape of green grasses, sandy tracks, yakkas and the gateway to the enormous white sand dunes, the Little Sahara.

The area is populated by abundant wildlife, including the Short-beaked echidna, Rosenberg’s goanna, the Tamar wallaby and the Kangaroo Island kangaroo, and it’s perfect for the adventurer!

Pick up a sandboard from Southern Ocean Lodge to surf the towering white dunes, reminiscent of the Sahara but looking to the Southern Ocean and imagined Antarctic.

This is perfect for anyone, and loads of fun.

Or for a faster ride, join the crew at Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action for an afternoon of thrill-seeking behind the handlebars of a quad-bike. Look out, Mad Max!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Southern Ocean Lodge!

On March 29th, 2010 Southern Ocean Lodge celebrated its second birthday!

It’s been a busy two years at the Lodge with awards won the world over, the development of new in-house guest private touring options, on-going sustainability developments including the installation of a substantial solarpower system and giant composter, an updated staff village and so much more.

Congratulations, Ben and Louise and all the team at Southern Ocean Lodge, Happy Birthday to you!
