After two years in operation, Southern Ocean Lodge took a break mid-July this year as an opportunity to do some refreshments (ie maitenance) in and around the Lodge.

It was a different feel for Southern Ocean Lodge; many department heads swapped hats to get stuck in to the nitty gritty!

Some fast facts:

  • Some 180 tonnes of Italian limestone sandblasted and resealed
  • All carpets in 21 suites steamcleaned
  • All interior walls of suites and the 270metre long breezeway repainted
  • All reclaimed timber floorboards polished
  • All outdoor teak furniture re-oiled
  • 1200 seedlings planted around the Lodge site. The seeds originated onsite and were propagated at the KI Seed bank before returning for planting
  • Around 500 loads of yacca mulch distributed around the Lodge

Southern Ocean Lodge reopened to welcome its inaugural Expedition Kangaroo Island, and a fully booked Lodge.

Fires burning, wine flowing, the Southern Ocean gliding icily by outside. It’s the place to be.
